Mine didn’t.
Choosing to leave my stable accounting career in favour of digital marketing (in 2024, in Kochi — a city where everyone and their cousin seemed to have suddenly tagged themselves as digital marketers) certainly was NOT the “safe” option. But it was the right one.
This is my honest story. No sugar coating, no highlight reel — just the raw story of how a guy went from staring at balance sheets to now being a Digital Marketing Expert in Kochi that has trained 200+ students and built his personal portfolio from scratch.

The Accounting Life — Stable But Empty
“I was an accountant to start out with. Numbers, spreadsheets, ledgers, reconciliations – I knew the routine inside out. It was a good career. A steady income. Clear expectations.
But there was always something lacking.
I wasn’t in love with what I was doing. I was good at it – but good at something and passionate about something are two very different things. It was like every morning I was doing what was expected of me, not what I was meant to do.

I still remember one evening scrolling through Instagram and noticing how certain brands were growing their audiences, generating leads and building real businesses purely through their online presence. Something clicked. “This is what I want to do.
The analytical side of my brain, trained through years of accounting, immediately saw the logic behind it. Every campaign has a budget. All the ads pay.” Each tactic has quantifiable outcomes. I’m not going to say it was easy. But learning SEO, Meta Ads, Google Ads, Social Media Management and Website Development all at the same time while making a switch from a completely different career is really hard. There were moments of doubt. Moments where I wondered if I had made a big mistake.
But I powered through.

To be able to stand in front of a group of fresh grads and working professionals, people who came to me to learn digital marketing and see them really understand and apply what I was teaching them, was like nothing I had ever experienced in my accounting career.
One of my students landed her first digital marketing job within months of finishing my training. One began working independently and secured her first client. It all felt real when I saw people that I had directly influenced in their careers go out and be successful.

None of this happened over night . It happened because I was consistent, I kept learning and I never stopped applying what I learned in the real world.
The Accounting Advantage Nobody Talks About
Here’s something I never saw coming – my accounting background turned out to be one of my biggest strengths as a Digital Marketing Expert in Kochi.
Most digital marketers are usually creative. They do a great job with storytelling, content, and design, but they sometimes struggle with the analytical, data-driven side of marketing.
My training as an accountant gave me the opposite foundation. I think in terms of budgets, ROI, conversion rates, metrics for performance, naturally. I don’t see creative content in a Meta Ads campaign, I see numbers that have to make sense. I approach SEO strategy like a financial projection – inputs, outputs and results that can be measured over a period of time.

What I Wish I Had Known Before Making the Switch
